New Zealand recorded a seasonally adjusted current account surplus of NZ$340 million in the September quarter - the first such surplus since December 1988.
The surplus is a NZ$746 million turnaround from the June quarter deficit of NZ$406 million, Statistics New Zealand said on Tuesday. The change in the current account balance from a deficit to a surplus was mostly due to a narrowing of the investment income deficit.
